FIVE-STAR CAPTAIN: In One Night Only, the opening number of the spring show on Saturday night, Blue Brigade captain Charli Cevallos is front and center setting the mood and tempo for the number and entire show. Cevallos said the opening number of the spring show is always upbeat and fun and this year’s edition was no exception. Cevallos said she remembers the moment as one of pure adrenaline. “Since opener is the first dance, the excitement is running high and it’s such a great feeling to be performing our hard work for an audience.” As the photo suggests, the team was able to perform the number in sync even though it was a new dance choreographed exclusively for the spring show by first lieutenant Annabel Winter (left) and senior lieutenant Emily Garza. “Opener was our first spring show dance we learned,” Cevallos said, “and it came together super well. … [It was] definitely a team favorite.” Cevallos said her favorite part of the number was the very beginning when Winter (left) woke her up stage left from a deep sleep to start the show. “It’s so fun,” she said, “and the audience loved it.” For the first time in three years, that audience was in the MAC and at full capacity without pandemic restrictions.

‘Starry Knights’ return to their proper alignment

MAKE THE FAMILY PROUD: Chris Riley was met with a swarm of overjoyed friends in the stands after his record 1600m run. One of those friends, Alex Tita, experienced firsthand how much Riley had trained for moments like these, and couldn’t be more proud of him. “I was so proud of him. Watching him cross the finish line with not only a personal record, but a school, and meet record was very special. His dedication to running is unmatched, and I hope to see him cross the finish line with even more record breaking times in the future.” After missing the entirety of his cross country season with a stress fracture, the dedication that Tita mentioned has become Riley’s greatest weapon. Through 60 mile weeks and hours upon hours of training, he’s been able to propel himself, not just back to where he was pre-injury, but much, much, faster. With the way he’s been running this season, it will be no surprise to anyone when there are many more moments like these. Riley will only run faster, and the stands will once again fill with crowds of people ready to watch the show. Caption by Thomas Melina Raab.

GEOMETRIC GLAM: Sophomore Lucy Praxmarer-Holloway poses on the fashion show runway in an outfit of her own design. Inspired by the techno beat of 17 Going Under by Sam Fender, the album that played as she and sophomore model Chloe Marco showed off the designs, first-time designer Praxmarer-Holloway’s collection explores geometric shapes and the feelings they evoke. “I felt pretty nervous at first, but when I was on stage I felt confident and proud of what I had accomplished,” Praxmarer-Holloway said. “When my model walked in my design it was amazing to see the idea in my head come together.” According to Praxmarer-Holloway, the design modeled by Marco used triangles, the strongest shape, to convey power. The design Praxmarer-Holloway chose to model herself incorporated cardboard panels to allow rectangular pieces to shoot out from the skirt, her favorite detail from the collection. “I would love to do it again because I got to meet a bunch of amazing people and also just see different styles of fashion which was very inspiring,” Praxmarer-Holloway said. BOO! BRIGADE: Decked out in squad-themed Halloween costumes, the Blue Brigade performs a pom routine to “Blinding Lights” during the McCallum football game against Crockett at House Park. After honoring the annual Halloween tradition of swapping uniforms with the cheerleaders during the school day, the Blue Brigade seniors took the field masquerading as everything from angels and ninja turtles to scarecrows and Super Mario characters. Senior and First Lieutenant Annabel Winter enjoyed working with her team to create the perfect costume and hopefully impress the costume judges, considering many factors from danceability to creativity, eventually deciding on customized jerseys. “Wearing the costumes brought so much excitement and energy to the team,” Winter said. “The costumes got everyone extra excited for the game because we got to do something other than the same uniforms we always wear, which are great of course, but costumes are so much more fun.” Reporting by Ingrid Smith.

INTERCEPTION RECEPTION: Ez Guenther and Tino Rodriguez celebrate Guenther’s win-sealing interception late in the fourth quarter. On the play before that, safety Jake Hissey nearly came up with the game-winning interception off a deflected pass, but he was inches out of bounds. But luckily for Hissey, Guenther came up with that win-sealing interception on the next play, and the offense was able to kneel the rest of the time out. “That’s what football’s all about, those game changing, game saving plays that you do for your teammates,” Guenther said. The Knights have a bye week next week, but face Marble Falls on the road again on Oct. 1.

Knights find their mojo in fourth quarter to triumph over Tivy

CAPTAINS AT TWILIGHT: Seniors Ez Guenther, Jake Hissey, Jaxon Rosales and Johan Holmes lineup for the coin toss before their last non-district game against the Kerrville Tivy Antlers. For Hissey, it was his first game back after suffering a wrist injury before the team’s marquee matchup against the Anderson Trojans. Despite wearing a cast that prompted the opposing coaches to urge their offensive skill players to run at the one-armed safety, Hissey held his own, nearly making an interception to seal the victory on the play before Guenther succeeded in doing the same. The Knights went on to beat Tivy 23-15 in a game that despite Tivy’s 0-4 record, they were not favored to win. Caption by Thomas Melina Raab.

ON TO THE NEXT - After a disappointing outing against the Lehman Lobos, QB Jaxon Rosales only is fociusing more on the game plan. Any loss will make you evaluate your play and give insight on how you can improve to help the team. Focusing on the game plan will help prepare us for next Friday, Rosales said. DEFENSE WINS TACO SHACKS. After a McCallum offsides call on a missed field goal forced the Trojans into going for it on fourth and two, the McCallum defense made the game-saving stop at the goal line. After senior lineman Johan Holmes made the initial hit, senior safety Ez Guenther and senior linebacker Tino Rodriguez made sure the play would go no farther than the line of scrimmage. “I could see that they were in wildcat formation, and their best player was going to get the ball, and it was all going to come down to who wanted it more,” Guenther said. The play thwarted the Trojans chance at a game-winning score. The Knights then proceeded to trudge 70 yards towards the Anderson end zone and run out the clock. “This photo just shows we wanted the Taco Shack Bowl more,” Guenther said.
