Kate Boyle is a third-year Shield staffer who is now one of the co- print managing editors and news section editors. Boyle is looking forward to moving away from Texas for college next year as she has visited many coastal colleges for the cooler weather and prettier nature. For the Knights, Boyle participates in the swim team, PALS and the writing center. Out of school occupations include: lifeguarding, swim coaching, baking and playing with Lucy, her dog. Be ready to catch Boyle at hopefully an old-timey newspaper stand around Mac at the end of the nine weeks!

Senior Reva Gill has been working year round for the City of Austin for four years. She started working as a lifeguard at neighborhood pools, but soon moved up the ranks and now works as a manager and at Barton Springs. Gill has had to cut back significantly on her hours over the school year so she has time to prioritize college applications, school work, and swim team.

University of Texas students collect in the grass outside of the UT tower. Some wear masks, others do not, as they socialize after almost a year and a half of online school. “Campus now feels really lively,” UT professor Stephanie Holmsten said. “Students are walking about campus, there were student organizations set up on campus. There were folks enjoying the beautiful weather on the south mall. So students are back and you feel it, you feel it on the sidewalks. Students who maybe spent COVID in their childhood homes have come back to Austin.”
