Senior and second year newspaper staffer, Javier Vela is looking forward to building upon a great first year in the journalism department. Having been able to get a plethora of experience with all aspects of journalism last year having been involved with not just the newspaper but the yearbook as well, He is keen to get started again. As well as newspaper, Vela is involved in the Student Equity Counsel and student leadership program. Applying himself especially well to the category of sports writing, Vela is excited to have as many opportunities as he can this season to build on his writing, photography and coverage with as many minutes as he can get on the field. Vela’s main passions outside of journalism include television, especially animation, film, video games and above all else, soccer. Vela’s favorite stories to write have been covering soccer games, the passion and energy of the team coupled with his passion for all aspects of the sport make for an exciting writing experience. With the resumption of school after a long hiatus, Vela is ready to pick up where he left off and get this year underway.
