Bowling team clips Hawks 17-0 to open season
Host Knights enjoy some home cooking in first home match in years
January 13, 2018
The bowling Knights started their 2018 season off by sweeping the Hendrickson Hawks 17 – 0 in a home match at Dart Bowl.
“Tonight was fun and full of excitement,” coach Randy Cannon told the Shield after the match. “The bowlers seemed to enjoy bowling at their ‘home center’ and having the additional spectator support. I was impressed at the way the team came together and was able to overcome the nerves and excitement of the moment.”
The team started off the match by sweeping the team games. In the first game, Anthony Bourda led the way by rolling a 197. Game 2 was very close contest until Gordon Bolton caught fire and completed his second game with a brilliant 246.
In the Baker games (in which team members alternate frames to bowl a single collective game) the Knights once again started out strong opening the first game with four strikes to finish with a 198. In game two of the Baker games the Knights overcame a slow start to finish with a 217. The last two Baker games were close from start to finish, but the team was able to make clutch shots needed to secure victories in both games and complete the sweep.
“There were several moments during the match the team needed to make crucial shots and were able to execute,” Cannon said. “I am proud of this fine group of young men they are constantly growing as athletes as well as sportsmen.”
Next up for the Knights will be the Trojans from Anderson, next Friday evening at Spare Time lanes in Pflugerville. Practice will begin around 6 p.m. with the competition starting around 6:15.

This article gives a little bit of information about the tournament itself but I feel like it could give a little more. How many strikes or spares did they have? I don’t know much about bowling so I’m not sure if that is a stat but if it is, I think the article could include some of that.

If it would be possible, to get the numbers from the other team and how they bowled to understand how close some of the matches were. I really enjoyed the article and the quotes from coach Cannon. The ending with the times of the next matches, it could have been better, and they could have extended a little more about the bowlers themselves. Their could have more specification about the game, but it was a good article to read that I enjoyed.m
