Mustangs tame Knights after controversial penalty
The varsity boys soccer team faced off against the Manor Mustangs on a sunny MLK Day Monday afternoon at House Park.
The Mustangs struck early with a goal in the seventh minute, but the score was quickly tied up again on a goal by Ian Juul-Hansen in the 11th minute, with an assist from Silvio Guzman. Shortly after the Knights struck again, this time with a goal by Luis Auyero.
In the end, the Knights fell to the Mustangs 3-2 after a penalty was called on the Knights, resulting in a goal for the Mustangs.
“We may have been unlucky having a penalty called against us,” varsity head coach Nick Martin said. “But that’s how the game is.”
This was the last of the preseason games for the Knights, who will be starting district play with the first game against LBJ on Friday.
“I think we were hustling well [today],” sophomore defender Micheal Alverson said, “but we weren’t being calm enough and staying within our own heads.”
The Knights play the LBJ Jaguars Friday at 7:45 p.m. at House Park.
“We’ll be ready to start district play this Friday,” Martin said. “We’re a good team who will have a successful season.”
The JV-A boys defeated Manor, 4-2, on goals by Charlie Partheymuller, Caleb Andrews, Milo Froese and Eli Soule.
The JV-B Knights fought the Mustangs to a 2-2 draw. Michaelian Trachtenberg scored both goals for Mac.
Congrats to our MacJ photographers for producing so many publishable photos that we have also made this soccer story our #TuesdayTop10 photo essay. We may never see a better day to shoot soccer pictures than we saw today. In fact we have seven #TuesdayTop10’s here: 70 photos from a beautiful Austin MLK Day at House Park.
