The varsity bowling team had a busy weekend, competing twice in three days.

On Friday, the team earned its second 17-0 shutout in district play, this time against the Anderson Trojans at Spare Time Lanes in Pflugerville.

In Game 1, Anthony Bourda led the way with a team high 181 while in Game 2, it was Gordon Bolton with a team high 189.

On Sunday, the team traveled to Astro Bowl in San Antonio where it competed in a match-play Baker invitational.

The format consisted of 16 Baker games (where each bowler rolls alternate frames in a collective game) against 15 other teams from across the state. The team had a hard time adjusting to changing lane conditions and fell behind early but fought back to finish eighth with a 165.9 average for the tournament.

The team would have scored higher, Coach Randy Cannon said, had it not missed several key spares along the way. Despite the open frames, the team managed a few good games: 207, 198, 185 and 183.

“I think they learned a few things as the day progressed,” Cannon said. “We have a lot of work to do between now and the end of the season, but I think we will be ready.”

The Mac bowlers return to Dart Bowl next Friday night but have a bye, so they will use the time to work on improving. They will reach the midway point of the district season with a perfect 3-0 record.
