Hebrew, Dari, Pastho words mispelled in April issue

Due to a text formatting error, the Hebrew, Dari and Pashto words that appeared on the cover of our April 28 edition were spelled incorrectly. In all three languages, text is read right to left, and we did not realize that our software reformatted the words left to right so that they appeared incorrectly in our print edition.

“Israel” in Hebrew is correctly spelled ישראל. The word for “Afghanistan” in both Dari and Pashto is افغانستان.

The same text formatting issue also caused the Dari and Pashto words for “welcome” to appear incorrectly in the headline on page 21 about Afghan immigrants coming to Mac. The Dari word for “welcome” is خوش آمدید. The Pashto word for “welcome” is ښه راغلاست.

The Shield regrets these errors very much. We have corrected them in the digital print edition that is accessible under the “print archive” tab under “More” on the main menu.
