Mac loves dressing up so much it took a whole week (and then some) to celebrate the holiday of costumes
At the Varsity Football game on Friday Oct. 26 against the Reagan Raiders, sophomore Matthew Vargas and the Blue Brigade performed their hoop routine at halftime. “I just really enjoy performing with all my friends and just performing for the school and performing for the football team to hopefully make them do better,” Vargas said. Spooky Spirit!
Day 3 of Homecoming spirit week at Mac and it’s Halloween! Freshman Grace Nugent, Elise Crouse, Elly Schottman, Anna Mcclellan, Annabel Winter, and Cata Herring are all dressed up for the holiday. Elise Crouse says “I like that we have the chance to wear Halloween costumes to school because it gives us a chance to express ourselves through our costumes.” Photo by Bridget Cole.
Waldo rounds third
BALL-OWEEN: On Tuesday morning (Oct. 30), Baxter "Waldo" Moore and the rest of the baseball team played a game in their Halloween costumes. Coach Grant’s team defeated Coach Searle’s team, 2-1, after Dillon Salinas drove in the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth. While Salinas won the game for his team, the game’s most memorable moment came when Matthew Kelly beat out a bunt single as an inflatable eagle. The game, originally scheduled for Halloween morning, was moved to Tuesday due to the chance of rain. This year is the first annual Costume Halloween Game, which served as a break for the players from their seven-week Fear the K.N.I.G.H.T. Campaign. Photo by Maeve McGeady.
Creepin' it real!
It’s Halloween at McCallum, and sophomores Hannah Zuniga (salt) and Emma Espinosa (pepper) pose for their Halloween picture to show off their complementary couple costume. “I love Halloween because it is the one day of the year that you can wear whatever you want and no one can say anything about it.” Zuniga said. Mask to be recognized
Sophomore Nadine Delgallo attended the parade after hearing about the event in Ms. Gun's Spanish 4 class. She also said that she has attended the parade her whole life but had never been in it so she thought it would be the perfect time! “The parade was about honoring the deceased and making it more of a happy occasion to celebrate, Delgallo said. “I had so much fun and I got to spend time with my friends and I got to experience Latin American culture!” There were freshman art students who were doing the face painting and Ms. Gun supplied the outfits and accessories that pulled together the whole look.
An Incredible costume

The Spongebob Chronicles
It’s a bird it’s a plane, it's Mermaid Man (Janet Perez) and Barnacle Boy (Cassandra Carrizales). They walked the catwalk for during AVID Halloween costume contest, saving the day.“We wanted to get AVID students to feel part of the family and have fun and host events like this,” Jack Rodriquez said. Day of the Dinosaurs
It’s Halloween at McCallum, and junior Van Smith is posing for a photo in his onesie as a cow/dinosaur. “I wanted to dress up like this because it gave me a way to be comfortable throughout my day and night but also was clearly a Halloween costume,” Smith said. Photo by Bella Kisler.
Costume Knight

She has her own fan club
Freshman Lara Lashus holds up a beautifully designed fan that she was using to accessorize and complete her look. “I participated in the [Day of the Dead] parade [on Oct. 27] because it was important to me to express my pride and the beauty in my culture, Lashus said. “It was so much fun to get out faces painted by the very talented art majors and go downtown! I heard about out school organizing a group for the parade in the announcements and I'm so glad I did!” Her hair was also done by one of the many volunteers that were there. Photo by Marley Angle.
Disguise the limit
It’s Halloween at McCallum and that is why freshman Tristan Wicall is smiling before the school day. “I don't know what my costume is," Wicall said. "I just threw something together this morning that I thought could make a costume.” Photo by Bella Kisler.
At McCallum, Halloween isn’t a day, it’s a weeklong state of mind. From the Blue Brigade showing up at Nelson Field the Friday before Halloween in full costumes, to the Spanish students who marched in the Dia de los Muertos parade in dowtown Austin on Saturday, to the baseball team that played a full game in Halloween gear the day before Oct. 31, Mac definitely showed its penchant for pretending to be someone or something else. In the precise middle of a Homecoming Week, filled of dress-up days, there was Halloween Wednesday itself when Mac nation didn’t just come dressed to impress, it held not one but two costume contests to decide once and for all who the best dressed costumed Knights were. In this week’s #TuesdayTop10, we take you back to the spooky week that was Halloween at Mac. Maniacal laugh. Maniacal laugh.

I liked seeing all the best MAC costumes, and you can tell that we’re at an arts high school. The zombie makeup was very realistic and the dia de los muertos parade art was well done.

I really liked this issue! A lot of these images I hadn’t seen before, specifically the costume contest ones, and it was fun to see them! It also gave people a chance who might have missed these events to “experience” them! Very well done. 🙂
