Julian tallies 3 TD’s, Knights intercept 3 Viking passes in rout
The Knights cruised to their ninth win in a row for the 2017 season Friday night at House Park by defeating host Lanier, 56-6.
The game had the telltale signs of the Knights’ winning ways all season. The team rushed for 491 yards and seven touchdowns while the defense held the Vikings to minus-10 yards rushing and intercepted quarterback Matthew King three times.
Alexander Julian rushed for 276 yards on 15 carries, scoring three times to bring his season rushing total to 1,942 yards and 18 TDs, according to the @statesman. Deron Gage scored twice, and Elijah Griffin recovered a fumble in the end zone for a special teams score.
Quarterback Max Perez added his 15th rushing touchdown of the season by finding the end zone from 2 yards out in the second quarter to make the score 14-0 with just over five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Backup quarterback Cole Davis scored the Knights’ final touchdown of the game with his own rushing touchdown from 12 yards out with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Davis Roe made the first interception on a leaping grab in the first half. Gabe Williams intercepted two passes, nearly running the first one back for a pick-6.
The lone blemish on a perfect night was King’s 78-yard TD pass to Tydell Wardy on the last play of the first half while King was being driven into the House Park turf.
The Knights will try to complete a perfect 10-0 regular season for the second time in school history and the first time since 1966 when they host Reagan for the Mac homecoming game next Friday at House Park at 7:30 p.m.
