Team takes third at regions by winning last four matches
Thanks to a third-place finish in the regional tournament yesterday in Killeen, the McCallum bowling team has qualified for the State Finals in Fort Worth on March 25-26.
The Knights won eight of 10 matches at region, losing only to first-place Ellison and second-place Harker Heights. The nine teams at the tournament played each other in one-game round-robin matches.
After a rough start in their opening match, the Knights rallied to beat the district rival Round Rock, 149-140. The team then started off their second match with four strikes to cruise past East View, 221-128.
After losing two matches, the team rallied to win their final four matches to clinch third place and a berth to the state tournament.
“I watched a group of young men grow together during this tournament,” Coach Randy Cannon said. “After each match I saw this team get stronger and more determined with every shot.”
Thirty-six teams advance to the state tournament. After qualifying, the top 16 will advance past the opening round.
