Senior captain Izzy Gillespie capped off her distinguished McCallum career by winning All-District MVP honors. During her dominating senior season, Gillespie scored 22 goals and recorded 13 assists. Gillespie also passed the 40/40 career mark for goals and assists during the first round of district play.
The Shield: How long have you been playing soccer?
IG: 10 years
TS: Do you play for a club team outside of school?

IG: Yes, I have played for Rangers since the middle of sixth grade.
TS: What is your favorite memory from club soccer?
IG: My sophomore year, we were undefeated, had no goals scored on us and we were first place in state.
TS: Is there any meaning behind your jersey number?
IG: No, it’s just the number I chose when I started playing NASA when I was about 8, and it’s my lucky number.
TS: What position do you play?
IG: Center mid or outside mid
TS: Are you going to play soccer in college?
IG: Yes, I haven’t picked where I am going to go yet, but if I go to a D3 school, I will play for the team, like I have talked to the coaches and stuff, I’m either going to get a walk-on spot at another school I have talked to, or I might get a spot on the roster. If I go to a bigger school, I will play club.
TS: Do you have and idea of where you would like to go to college?
IG: I’m choosing between Puget Sound in Washington and Rhodes in Memphis and then maybe St. Mary’s in California.
TS: Before winning MVP, did you win any other all-district awards?
IG: My freshman year, I got newcomer of the year.
TS: How did you react when you found out that you were named the all-district MVP?
IG: I was really surprised, I thought an Austin High girl was going to get it, and I was really happy.
