Ever since her freshman year, senior Lexi Rosenblatt has been working through the challenges of college volleyball recruiting, Rosenblatt committed to play Division III volleyball at Connecticut College on July 19. Rosenblatt has played volleyball for 10 years now, at both Austin Junior Volleyball and Roots Volleyball. Rosenblatt’s talent has continued at McCallum, as she has earned her 2,000th assist this school year, in a game against Akins on Aug.19.
When looking for a college to pursue volleyball at, Rosenblatt was looking for a high academic liberal arts school with good access to the Northeast. Rosenblatt came across Connecticut and everything came together. Rosenblatt went and visited on July 12 and immediately loved the support from the coaching staff and players.
Rosenblatt’s parents, Rachel Fagan and Robert Rosenblatt, saw her passion for the game very early on, as they said she had known she wanted to play in college since she was 13. Rosenblatt began playing volleyball when she was nine at West Austin Youth Association. Her parents instantly noticed her love for the sport and put her into club volleyball.
“I’d never seen her more excited,” Fagan said.“Lexi would run around the hotel and go swimming with her teammates. It was one of my favorite things to watch along this journey.”
Rosenblatt set goals her freshman year, with getting 2,000 assists being on the list. She felt proud that she got to spend this milestone with all the people who have supported her along her volleyball journey.
“It was great to feel so much support from the team, my parents and my coaches, which made it overall a great night,” Rosenblatt said.
Rosenblatt officially committed to Connecticut on July 19. The recruiting process had a lot of ups and downs for Rosenblatt, but in the process, she learned a lot and said she is super excited for what’s next.
“[It took] a lot of rejection and redirection and figuring out what was best for me, but I’m ultimately glad I went through it because it led me to a place I’m going to be very happy at,” Rosenblatt said.
For Rosenblatt’s parents, the recruiting process took a lot of time commitment, with everything from traveling to phone calls. However, they said they are pleased with how everything worked out and are so excited for this next chapter in Connecticut.
“The Connecticut camp was great, we loved the coaches and coming home to an email that makes her cry with excitement was just great,” Robert said.
From her parents’ point of view, Rosenblatt has grown in many ways through her time playing volleyball. They said they are constantly impressed with her leadership and dedication to the sport.
“She had to develop really thick skin through volleyball, whether it was in club, playing with upperclassmen and even with the recruiting process,” Fagan said. “I’m really impressed with her continued focus and dedication, because it’s time-consuming.”
Through her time at McCallum, Rosenblatt has earned many awards for her play. In her junior year, she won the Most Valuable Setter award for District 24-5A, as well as earning first team all-district honors. Rosenblatt was also named a co-captain her sophomore year, and has been one for her junior and senior years as well. In this leadership role, Rosentblatt has learned many lessons from the upperclassmen she’s led along the way.
“In my sophomore year, I became a co-captain with Rylee Hissey, Greta Carlson and Jordyn Berger,” Rosenblatt said. “They all taught me about leadership and I learned a lot about being a captain since I made the freshman to captain jump.”
Rosenblatt said she has many favorite memories from McCallum volleyball, but one that stood out the most was winning bi-district her freshman year against Pflugerville.
“It was the first time that McCallum volleyball had won bi-district in a really long time,” Rosenblatt said. “It was a core memory for me because we won at home, the energy was high, and it was just such a great game.”
Looking towards her future at Connecticut College, Rosenblatt is excited to learn and play in a new environment.
“Connecticut is in an awesome location,” Rosenblatt said.“I already know my coach and teammates and am super excited to grow and play with them”
