The 2025 Snow White movie was an unnecessary movie made by Disney to make a quick buck.
The plot, for the most part, follows the original storyline except for removing the prince and replacing him with a thief named Jonathan. It starts with Snow White being born. As she grows, her parents both die/disappear, leaving her alone with the Evil Queen. The evil queen takes over, and Snow White becomes a servant. One day while she is working, she comes across a bandit, Jonathan (the so-called prince). Later, due to the queen’s jealousy and Snow White’s beauty, she is forced to leave and hide in the woods. She meets the seven dwarfs, and over time they become close. The queen sends an army to find Snow White. White reunites with Jonathan and his forest gang. Through trials and tribulations, they face the forces of the Evil Queen.
Compared to Rachel Zegler’s co-star, Tom Blyth, in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Andrew Burnap was a sad excuse of a co-star. Zegler and Burnap lacked chemistry throughout the movie. They looked uncomfortable being next to each other, almost like one of them had COVID, and they were required to stand six feet apart.
Despite all the things that went wrong with it, I have to admit that Zegler did a good job playing Snow White. She used her unique facial features to her advantage. She made facial expressions that I think helped develop Snow White’s character. Without her, I think that some of those feelings would have been forgotten. She also is a very talented singer. She was able to take the awful song lyrics and turn them into something just above unbearable.
Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen was sub-par. Her makeup artist did an alright job, and her costume was just inexplicably bad. She also didn’t necessarily sell the evil part of her role. She had moments where she showed compassion which the Evil Queen wasn’t known for. When Gadot was “singing,” it felt like she was just talking and then attempting a small twang at the end.
They advertise this as a movie, but it’s truly a musical. Disney turned words that could have just been said as lines into unnecessary songs. Not to mention that all the songs felt forced, especially the song “Princess Problems.” The best song on the soundtrack is “Waiting on a Wish,” featured at the beginning of the movie, so don’t get your hopes up for the rest of the songs as it’s all downhill from there.
Adding on top of everything else, the choreography was just straight up bad. It felt like Disney tried to copy the style of choreography from Wicked, except they couldn’t pull it off. The moves didn’t feel like they fit the song or story. Overall, it looked like Disney made them five minutes before they were performed.
The costumes looked like they let a third-grader design them. The Evil Queen’s costume looked like a reversible sequin pillow from 2020. Plus, the pieces from the queen’s costume looked like she went to five different stores, found the first thing she could and said “good enough.” You could probably find Snow White’s costume on Temu for less than $10.
Forget Snow White as the main character. I would have to hand that over to CGI. The majority of the essential elements in the movie were CGI including the backdrop, animals and the seven dwarfs. It made the movie feel like you were in Barbie Land. It seemed like the animators tried to make the dwarfs look cartoonish but also scarily realistic in the worst way possible. The animators had to have run out of ideas of what to make the dwarfs look like. Dopey looked like the main character from “Polar Express,” and Doc looked like Santa Claus.
Overall, the movie was a sad reenactment of the original story. They tried to change the moral of the story from love to self-dependence. I found that by the end of the movie that whole idea was out the window. So, while you’re here, save yourself $12 and just stay home.
