Atticus Adair

Gergő Major

Senior Atticus Adair’s two intended future courses of study couldn’t be more different from each other. Still, they are the perfect fit for him. When Adair begins next fall at Arizona State University’s Barrett Honors College, he will major in aerospace engineering and minor in musical theatre.

“I’m mostly looking forward to meeting new people who are interested in the same things I am,” Adair said. “I am really excited to have friends who are into engineering and musical theatre and to work with them to get better.”

As a major, aerospace engineering made perfect sense to Adair. He’d always been interested in the subject and wanted an opportunity to learn more about it.

“I decided on aerospace engineering because I have always had a fascination with space exploration,” Adair said. “As I’ve gotten older, I have started to learn about the systems and technology that had gotten us to space and to the moon and I was fortunate enough to find a really good program for it.”

But minoring in musical theatre was more of a lucky strike extra — something that he discovered a joy for much later in his high school career.

“I didn’t really know I wanted to keep doing it until towards the end of this year,” Adair said. “I was sad that I couldn’t do more shows because the ones I have done at Mac have been so much fun. But then I was looking into some of the programs at ASU and I was like ‘Why not just go for it?’”

Although Adair is looking forward to moving into this next chapter of his life, the end of his McCallum career is a bittersweet one.

“I will miss the friends I’ve made the most, and also the arts program that I’ve been a part of,” Adair said. “It’s really developed who I am and what I want to do and I’m sad I have to leave.”
