Teagan Boyd

Senior Teagan Boyd refused to let one area define her McCallum experience. With years of dedication to both theater and visual arts, Boyd decided to double major.

“The fine arts have always been a huge aspect of my life,” Boyd said. “And one of the main reasons I applied for both performance theater and visual arts is because they are both such foundational parts of who I am as a person.”

Fitting in all the required courses for two majors was stressful, but Boyd is grateful for the experience of pursuing her passions.

“Taking classes over the summer helped me free up my course slots,” Boyd said. “I think it was difficult especially freshman year because the workload increased greatly from middle school, but after that it became a little easier to manage as I got accustomed to it.”

Boyd’s high school theater career went out with a bang, as she played the lead in Antigone, which advanced to UIL zone earlier this year.

“The role of Antigone really pushed me as an actor and gave me the space to experiment and grow,” Boyd said. “I love all the people I worked with and I was beyond happy to go to UIL with them. I was so proud of both myself and the cast and crew.”

In the visual arts, Boyd also earned several impressive accolades, like the American Visions Medal at the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her sculpture “The (Ne)cromancer,” and is especially proud of her work on the “Beautiful People” bust collection.

As Boyd leaves her artistic influence in her wake, she is sad to see McCallum go.

“I’m going to miss all of my friends; they truly have brightened my life and made me feel valued and loved,” Boyd said. “They are all so creative and talented and kind, and I wish I could take them to college with me.”

Next year, Boyd plans to attend Penn State, where she will major in theater performance.
