A NEW HIGH NOTE: To new choral director Shannon Carter, McCallum’s students are what the school special. “The students here are exceptionally bright,” he said. “They are eager to learn.” Carter discovered his own love for singing in his senior year, thanks to a friend who prompted him to join a choir class. “That one conversation changed my life.” Since then, Carter has taught music education at six different schools and worked to help students uncover their talents and explore the arts. “I want the students at McCallum to have the opportunity to experience music in a way that lets them be the best they can be, whether they want to pursue music as a career or not,” Carter said.  “I want them through music to grow in ways that they learn lessons that can be used throughout their lives.”
