The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

“Because time is cruel to all, and crueler still to artists. Because visions weakens, and voices wither, and talent fades…. Because happiness is brief, and history is lasting, and in the end… everyone wants to be remembered.”

In 1714 France, Addie LaRue prayed to the gods who came out after dark. She prays for freedom in order to escape an arranged marriage and is granted immortality. It’s not what she asked for, but it will give her freedom, so she agrees. The catch, because of course there’s a catch, is that everyone she ever meets will forget her. Almost 300 years later, a man in a bookstore remembers her name. This book can be a little slow at times, but the story is beautifully written. The plot twists are so fun and the ending is amazing. The book bounces all over Addie’s life, and we slowly fill in the details of her story. It might be a little hard to get there, but the ending is so worth it.
