Circe by Madeline Miller
“When I was born, the word for what I was did not exist.”
A retelling of Greek Mythology, this book follows Circe, the daughter of Helios, the god of the sun and most powerful Titan, as she is exiled for using magic. In exile on an island, Circe perfects her witchcraft and is visited by some very…interesting people. Madeline Miller’s writing style is so incredibly beautiful. I’m not always a fan of flowery language, but when Miller does it, it’s almost lyrical. The book is definitely more focused on the characters than the plot. I love a morally grey protagonist, and Circe is exactly that.
