In Mr. Seckar-Martinez’s fifth-period painting class today, students captured black-and-white photos of interesting compositions and then sketched them with black and white charcoal. India Houston opted to sketch a cow. “I love dairy,” she said with a laugh. Houston prefers in-person art class over virtual classes, she said, because it’s easier to keep up with directions. Scout Boruff on the other hand did not have a preference between in-person or online because Boruff has similar materials at home.

As her World Photo Day selection, fifth-period digital media student Mia Plemons selected this image by digital media student Bo Witzel of Mr. Seckar-Martinez instructing his fifth-period art students about their assignment to capture black-and-white photos of interesting compositions and then sketch them with charcoal. “The angle of the photo makes it appear as if the two students are framing the teacher,” Plemons said. “Additionally you can tell what the focal point is because the background is not too crowded.”
