New Orleans Youth Academy players warm up before their first regional game on Friday at Concordia University’s Tornado Field.

With upset win over host RBI Austin, NOLA Youth Academy eyes spot in regional final

Game 3 Final: NOLA Youth Academy 7, RBI Austin 4

Three teams. Two sports.

The New Orleans Youth Academy played itself into contention for a championship game berth Sunday at Dell Diamond with two victories on Saturday morning at the @mlbrbi Southwest Regional baseball tournament at Concordia’s Tornado Field.

After defeating the Rangers Youth Academy, 4-2, this morning, NOLA rode a four-run sixth inning to regain the lead and the game from host RBI Austin, 7-4. #RBIAustin had fought back from a 3-0 hole to take a 4-3 lead in the game.

With the victory, the NOLA Youth Academy finishes group play at 3-1. With the loss, RBI Austin falls to 2-1 and into a tie with #AstrosRBI, who defeated the El Paso Border Youth Athletic Association on Saturday morning, to improve their record to 2-1.

The Astros have started their final group play game against the Rangers RBI at St. Edward’s. If the Astros win, RBI Austin would have to defeat El Paso to force a three-way tie for first at 3-1. Is it too early to ask how the tiebreaker rules for the title game work?
