After a frustrating summer of cancelled traditions and an interminable four weeks of school without a face-to-face team gathering, the Blue Brigade finally held its first in-person practice on Monday morning on the baseball fields. While the delay in in-person practice has been frustrating Seckar-Martinez is still hopeful that she and her teammates can have a successful year together. “I hope we can continue to dance even if it stays like this all year, and I hope the freshman have a great first experience on Blue Brigade because I remember how new and exciting everything was. And I hope seniors will have a last dance at the end of the year. But the main goal is to have fun and stay motivated.”

LISTENING IN: Freshman Sophie Leung-Lieu and her shaggy dog, Sun Tzu lay on the floor with their headphones in. Moments after this photo was taken, Sun Tzu rolled over and was not in the mood to be posing. “It was difficult to get a good photo where he was sitting up straight,” Leung-Lieu said. “He looked grumpy in every other picture we took.” In the end, Sophie and her pet companion got the right shot.

Rising junior Samantha Powers waits behind the wheel as rising senior Lindsey Plotkin hands Katharine Powers, Samantha’s mom, two yearbooks during the yearbook staff’s curbside distribution on Friday in front of the school. The book delivery was delayed to late summer because Balfour, the Dallas-based publisher, was closed for nearly two months and because students had to complete the yearbook remotely after the campus was closed on March 13. While many Austinites fiddle their days away stuck at home, a sizable group of less fortunate souls must continue their struggle for survival on the streets. The irony in this picture speaks to me as the man on the right leans against a sign asking people to stay home and slow the spread, with all his worldly belongings in the suitcase to his left. NOTE-ABLE ENDEAVORS: My dad has a series of sticky notes covering one wall, a few windows, and the center table. There are many different moving parts to running a business and the simplest way to keep track of all these different factors is to write them down on sticky notes and put them in easy places to remind him. Systems like this are used frequently to improve work efficiency throughout many different industries but they are usually digitized; I have never seen anybody use actual sticky notes other than him. I don’t see how it is any better than just putting them into some form of “reminders” app but it seems to increase his productivity so I trust his process. Photo by Angus Sewell McCann.

Because our house is small, he built himself a desk in his room, so he could have his own space to work.
