Happy birthday, trick-or-treat

Students with Oct. 31 birthdays celebrate double

For nine McCallum students, trick-or-treating isn’t just a way to celebrate Halloween. It’s also a birthday tradition.

“Half my room is Halloween-themed stuff that I keep all year long,” she said. “I get a lot of pumpkin-related nicknames, too, like ‘my little pumpkin.'”

Freshman Zoe Pattie said she’ll never be too old to go trick-or-treating. When she was younger, going out to collect candy was extra-exciting.

“It was a celebration already because it was Halloween, and then we were celebrating by birthday, too,” she said.

This year on Halloween, junior Lily Stuesser was at the Battle of the Bell football game, but when she was younger, she always went trick-or-treating.

“I used to think everyone was dressing up for my birthday,” she said.

Freshman Abbey Douglass also wore a costume to school for Halloween.

“When you’re little, Halloween is like a big party because everyone is dressed up,” she said. “Nobody knows [it’s your birthday], but it’s still cool.”
