Sophomore Silvio Guzman scored the Knight goal off a beautiful pass from teammate Moss Gillespie. Anderson tied the game and then when ahead on a goal following a save by goalkeeper Bryn Lewis.
In a season-opening scrimmage tonight at the Anderson High practice field, the varsity boys soccer team battled the host Trojans until the very last minute. The game remained scoreless until the 29th minute when Silvio Guzman scored off a beautiful pass by Moss Gillespie. The Trojans soon responded off a few small mistakes by the Knights. At the end of the first half of play, the score was locked up 1-1.

The second half was a fight. Both teams came out looking to make a statement. A few nice saves from both goalies and some very aggressive defense on both ends kept the score tied until the very last minute, when Anderson scored when Mac goalkeeper Bryn Lewis’s save rebounded right to an Anderson player who scored the game winner. The Knights came very close to tying it up a few times, but in the end, the Trojans prevailed, 2-1.
Prior to the varsity game, the JV-A Knights drew the Trojans, 0-0. The JV-B Knights opened the tripleheader losing as the varsity did, 2-1. Jaime Guckenberger scored the goal for the Knights.
The Knights play their first regular season game on Jan. 7 when they play the Austin High Maroons at 7:30 p.m. at House Park. The JV-B Knights play first at 4:45 p.m., followed by the JV-A squad at 6 p.m.
