Senior quarterback Max Perez verbally committed to become a West Texas A&M Buffalo Friday after a visit to the campus and meeting the coaching staff.

“In the middle of the season I got an email from the coach asking how the recruiting process was going,” Perez said. “I didn’t respond for awhile just because I was focused on the season and winning every game. Once the season was over that’s when I really started talking to him.”

Perez got offered a scholarship, which to him, really sealed the deal.

“They told me they offered me the full amount they could offer incoming freshman which really showed me how much they wanted me to come play for them. I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity.”

When asked about how it felt to be visiting a big college campus where he would potentially be offered to play, Perez described it as a special moment. “Honestly, I wish I could start practicing tomorrow. It’s just a blessing to continue at any level.”

Perez was named the Austin American-Statesman Centex 25-5A Offensive Most Valuable Player after a stellar senior season that saw him rush for 1,406 yards and 29 touchdowns while throwing for another 1,147 yards with 15 TD passes.
